The Heartland Labor Capital Network has been exploring and promoting practical, jobs-oriented investment strategies, building on labor's capital, since 1996. The Network has been coordinated by a broad-based Heartland Working Group in the U.S. and Canada. The Network was kicked off by the Industrial Heartland Labor Investment Forum in June, 1996, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and furthered by a series of national foundation awards, culminating in the Second National Conference of the Heartland Project April 29 and 30, 1999 in Washington, D.C.
