Paul Maritz

Paul Maritz is a Co-Founder of Pivotal Software, where he also serves as Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman. He is a Board Member of Tignis, Kernel Labs (Seattle) and Fermat. He has served as a director of VMware since July 2008 when he joined VMware as CEO. He was VMware's CEO from July 2008 through August 2012 and President from July 2008 to January 2011. He is currently the Executive Chairman of Pivotal. He served as Pivotal's CEO from April 2013 through August 2015. From September 2012 through March 2013, he served as Chief Strategist at EMC. Prior to joining VMware, he was President of EMC's Cloud Infrastructure and Services Division after EMC acquired Pi Corporation in February 2008. He was a founder of Pi, a software company focused on building cloud-based solutions and served as its CEO. Before founding Pi, he spent 14 years working at Microsoft Corporation, where he served as a member of the five-person Executive Committee that managed the company. As Vice President of the Platform Strategy and Developer Group, among other roles, at Microsoft, he oversaw the development and marketing of System Software Products (including Windows 95, Windows NT and Windows 2000), Development Tools (Visual Studio) and Database Products (SQL Server) and the complete Office and Exchange Product Lines. Prior to Microsoft, He spent five years working at Intel Corporation as a software and tools developer. He experiences serving in various executive positions at VMware, Pivotal and other global technology companies provide him with an in-depth knowledge of VMware business and the issues we face. In addition, he substantial experience in the information technology sector ranging from the development of software products to founding a company developing cloud computing software provides VMware Board with significant expertise on a variety of issues important to VMware business.
