MJ Elmore

Mary Jane Elmore, has been active in the software and information technology industries since the late 1970s. She joined the venture capital firm, Institutional Venture Partners (IVP) in 1982 and was made a General Partner in 1983 becoming one of the first women venture capital partners on the west coast. At IVP, Ms. Elmore focused on investments in the fields of software, communications, and computer-aided engineering. She served as a General Partner in seven IVP funds and has served on the Board of Directors of numerous private and public information technology companies. Ms. Elmore has been an investor in early stage start-up companies as well as in companies that are raising expansion capital. Prior to joining IVP, Ms. Elmore was a marketing manager at Intel Corporation’s Development Systems Division. She was part of a small team of professionals across all divisions of Intel that worked closely with the sales force to achieve market leadership of Intel microprocessors in the early 1980s. Currently Ms. Elmore is an advisor to the IVP funds and a private angel investor. She has also served as a Director of the Western Association of Venture Capitalists (WAVC), the Purdue University Mathematics Advisory Council, and the Stanford Business School Trust. Ms. Elmore is in the inaugural class of Stanford’s Distinguished Career Institute and will spend full time at Stanford in 2015. Ms. Elmore earned a B.S. in Mathematics from Purdue University in 1976 and an M.B.A. from Stanford University in 1982.
