Opened in March 2001, the Colorado Springs Technology Incubator serves to foster the development and success of high-growth companies in the greater Colorado Springs area. CSTI was formed to provide high-tech start-up companies with infrastructure, services and mentoring, allowing them to successfully grow their companies into major employers in the area. Most of the mentorship and services provided to client companies are free of charge. However, CSTI currently takes 5% of the accepted company's fully diluted stock outstanding as a form of future payment for services and mentorship. For qualifying companies, the Incubator can provide access to early-stage capital through organizations like High Altitude Investors (HAI), a Colorado Springs-based angel investor network. HAI is administered by the Colorado Springs Technology Incubator. The Incubator also offers a path to capital from state governments, economic-development coalitions, commercial banks and other investors. The incubator is a 24,000 square-foot facility along the 'Defense Corridor' on the south side of Colorado Springs. CSTI recently expanded their focus to include companies that specialize in developing technology used for homeland security.
