Chess Ventures is a private equity firm that invests in earlier-stage technology companies that have direct application to the financial services industry. The firm is headquartered in San Francisco, with an office in London, and is funded in part by the Schwab family (of Charles Schwab discount brokerage). Chess generally invests in companies headquartered in the U.S., and generally prefers earlier-stage rounds. Chess investments typically range from $1-3 million per round, and the firm both leads funding rounds, and co-invests.
