AsiaTech was founded in 1997 by James Yao and Hanson Cheah and currently manages seven funds. Asia Technology 1 and 2 were launched in 1997 and 1998, respectively. In 1998, Hong Kong's government chose the firm to be one of the managers of the Hong Kong Applied Research Fund. In 1999, AsiaTech partnered with Sun Microsystems and the Government of Singapore to launch the Asia Java Fund. AsiaTech invests in technology companies focused on: applications, communications and infrastructure, semiconductors, and software. The firm also maintains offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore.
