In 2008, Flatrock Energy Advisors, LLC and EnCap Investments, LP joined together in a long-term partnership to create a series of private equity funds to invest in the midstream sector of the North American energy infrastructure space. The firm manages the EnCap Flatrock Midstream Funds I and II, which have more than $2.54 billion in investment commitments. The EnCap Energy Infrastructure Fund (EEIF) has institutional investor commitments totaling $791.6 million and is jointly managed by the combined EnCap Flatrock team. EnCap Flatrock has more than $3 billion in total assets under management. EEIF primarily focuses on providing growth capital to proven midstream management teams in North America. The firm's targeted equity commitments are typically in the $100 million range, but EEIF also pursues investment opportunities requiring larger equity commitments in conjunction with the firm's investment partners. EEIF pursues attractive investment opportunities in: natural gas gathering, treating, compression, processing and storage operations; oil gathering and transportation; natural gas liquid fractionation, storage and transportation; produced water handling and disposal; and CO2 gathering, transportation and sequestration. Since its inception, EnCap has raised 16 institutional oil and gas investment funds totaling approximately $13 billion and invested more than $5.4 million in over 180 companies.
