Visana is a Swiss insurance provider who invests in a wide range of alternative investment vehicles. The firm currently has about 7% of its $2.23 billion fund invested in alternatives including hedge funds, funds of hedge funds, and funds of private equity funds. Private equity fund investments are about 80% buyouts and 20% venture capital, and both are split 50/50 between exposures in Europe and the US.Based on a meeting in November 2010, in which there were changes in regulation, Visana is redeeming from all of its hedge fund investments in 2011. It will keep its private equity investments but remains fully committed in this asset class.
