Founded in 1988, NGP Energy Capital Management is a leading investment firm in the energy industry with a $13 billion family of funds. Its investment platform includes the Natural Gas Partners private equity fund complex, a family of funds with over $7.3 billion of total capital under management since inception. The funds invest private equity capital in oil and gas production, midstream and oil field service companies and co-invest in direct oil and gas property interests alongside portfolio companies. In addition, NGP Energy Capital Management oversees the activities of NGP Capital Resources, a $450 million publicly-traded business development company that focuses on providing senior debt and mezzanine capital to the energy industry. Also, the firm provides oversight to NGP Energy Technology Partners, a $148 million fund investing growth equity capital in companies providing technology-related products and services to the oil and gas, power and alternative energy sectors. The firm's fourth investment platform is NGP Midstream & Resources, L.P., a $1.4 billion fund that makes direct investments in selected areas of the energy infrastructure and natural resources sectors, primarily targeting the midstream energy sector and all facets of the mining, minerals and related power sectors. Midstream & Resources is 'essentially fully invested', and has entered its harvest period. In early 2010, NGP Energy Capital Management initiated the formation of NGP Global Adaptation Partners, a private equity fund targeted to be $3 billion that will focus its investment opportunities in water resources, food and agriculture, and coastal protection.
