Patrick Gelsinger serves as Chief Executive Officer at VMware. He brings more than 35 years of technology and leadership experience.Before joining VMware, Gelsinger led EMC's Information Infrastructure Products business as president and COO. A respected IT industry veteran, he was at Intel for 30 years becoming the company's first CTO and driving the creation of key industry technologies including USB and Wi-Fi. He led Intel to be the dominant supplier of the microprocessor - while in the significant role as the architect of the original 80486 processor. He earned an associate's degree from Lincoln Technical Institute in 1979, a bachelor's degree from Santa Clara University in 1983 (magna cum laude) and a master's degree from Stanford University in 1985, all in electrical engineering. In 2008, he was named a Fellow of the IEEE and awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters in 2008 from William Jessup University.He holds seven patents in the areas of VLSI design, computer architecture and communications.
