Michigan State University was set up in 1855 and is one of the major public universities in the US. The Michigan University"s endowment makes private equity and venture capital investments setting aside 47% of the endowment assets to the alternative asset classes: 25% to absolute return, non-marketable investments (restructuring, private equity and venture capital) are allocated 12% of assets and inflation hedges (real estate and natural resources) are allocated 10% of assets.The University has significantly scaled back their alternative investment portfolio lately, and defers all contact to Cambridge Associates.
