Mr. Rutherfurd is the co-founder and Managing Partner of Inter-Asia Venture Management which was with a sector focused strategy of investing in small medium enterprises (SME) in emerging Asian markets since 1972. For his leadership and contribution in the private equity industry, Mr. Rutherfurd was awarded the first Lifetime Achievement Award for cumulative excellence by the Asian Venture Forum in 2002 and the Special Achievement Award by the Asian Venture Capital Journal in 2012.
Mr. Rutherfurd has been directing the management of all four of the Inter-Asia venture capital and private equity funds. With more than 41 years of private equity investing experience in Asia, Mr. Rutherfurd has overseen the creation of more than 40 companies, establishing an extensive track record in building and successful exiting of private equity investments in the Asia region. Mr. Rutherfurd received a BA in East Asian Studies from Princeton University and an MBA with distinction from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business.
Mr. Rutherfurd is an Executive Advisory Board member of the Thunderbird Private Equity Center in the US. He was a former Governor and Vice President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, an Advisory Board member of Princeton in Asia and a former trustee of Berkshire School. He is past Co-Chairman and executive committee member of the Hong Kong Venture Capital Association and acts as trustee of the Mary Wood Foundation.
