Bilal Zuberi

Bilal is attracted tu startups that solve big, practical problems with technically ambitious solutions. He wants to back founders who are driven to build large companies, and envision a better, more prosperous future than today. He believes technology can help address some of the world's largest problems, from mobility and connectivity to food production, manufacturing, and healthcare. Bilal leads Lux's investments in Saildrone, autonomous ocean data collection; AirMap, unmanned air traffic management platform; Desktop Metal, metal 3D printing; Nozomi Networks, industrial cyber security; Zededa, open-source virtualization of the cyber-physical edge; Fiddler, which is making AI explainable; Evolv, physical security screening; Orbital Insight, image analysis and data science at petabyte scale; Veo Robotics, collaborative industrial robotics; Applied Intuition, a simulation platform for autonomous mobility; Yonder, an authentic internet company; Higharc, a company democratizing custom home design; Lightform, projection mapping/AR; and others. Prior to joining Lux, Bilal was an investor at General Catalyst Partners. Before becoming an investor, he was an entrepreneur and co-founded GEO2 Technologies. Earlier in his career, Bilal was a strategy consultant at BCG, and a visiting scientist at PNNL/DOE Labs. Bilal has a passion for higher education, and among other roles served as member of the founding team of the School of Science and Engineering at LUMS University. He also co-founded few initiatives to promote university entrepreneurship, including student-led investment fund, RoughDraft.vc. He presently serves on the Advisory Board of the Lemelson Foundation. Bilal earned a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (under Prof. Mario Molina, Nobel laureate, 1995), and is proud of the fact that his technical work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and 30+ patents and patent applications. He is an immigrant citizen in this country, and thankful every day for opportunities that he has been afforded here.
