Trust for Mutual Understanding

Trust For Mutual Understanding (TMU) is an independent non-profit foundation based in New York, United States. Established in 1984, the foundation awards grants to American non-profit organizations to support the international travel component of cultural and environmental exchanges conducted in partnership with institutions and individuals in Russia and Central and Eastern Europe. The foundation was established by an anonymous American philanthropist as a private, grant-making organization dedicated to promoting improved communication, closer cooperation and greater respect between the people of the United States, the Soviet Union and other countries in Eastern and Central Europe. The assets of the foundation are managed and governed by the board of trustees.The Trust For Mutual Understanding's (TMU) investment portfolio is valued at $37.43 million, with investments in domestic and international equity, fixed income, cash, and private equity.
