Established in 1991, the firm operates as the private equity and venture capital arm of Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Company. It specializes in stages from seed to late stage and buyouts investments and also invests in Japanese companies that expand abroad, Japanese companies that can drive changes in the industrial sector and regulated industries in growth stage. TMCap invests funds collected from institutional investors at home and abroad including banks, insurance companies, and pension funds in excellent medium- and small-sized companies, and aims for further growth through a variety of kinds of management support for investees.
