Royal Dutch Shell is an independent oil and gas company. It specializes in the exploration, production, refining and marketing of oil and natural gas and the manufacturing and marketing of chemicals. It operates in three segments, which are Upstream, Downstream and Integrated Gas. Its Upstream segment focuses on exploration for new crude oil and natural gas reserves and on developing new projects. Its Downstream segment focuses on turning crude oil into a range of refined products, which are moved and marketed around the world for domestic, industrial and transport use. Its Integrated Gas segment manages its liquefied natural gas (LNG) activities and the production of gas-to-liquids (GTL) fuels and other products. It was founded in 1907 and is headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands.
