Pension Benefit Guaranty is a government agency based in Washington, District of Columbia. Established in 1974, the agency protects the retirement incomes of American workers. It was created to encourage the continuation and maintenance of private-sector defined benefit pension plans, provide timely and uninterrupted payment of pension benefits, and keep pension insurance premiums at a minimum. The assets are managed by the Board of Directors.Pension Benefit Guaranty's investment portfolio is valued at $120.11 billion, with investments in domestic and international equity, fixed income, private equity, real estate, and cash. The total fund composite as of 2018 for the periods 1 year, 3 years, and 5 years is 1.35%, 7.04%, and 6.36%, as compared to the total fund benchmark of 1.01%, 6.65%, and 6% respectively.
