National Cancer Institute (NCI)

The National Cancer Institute is a U.S. health agency that conducts and supports research, training, and other activities related to the causes, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. The National Cancer Institute’s main responsibilities include coordinating the National Cancer Program; conducting and supporting cancer research; training physicians and scientists; and disseminating information about cancer detection, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, control, palliative care, and survivorship. The institute was established by the U.S. Congress in 1937.
