Established on January 1, 1991, as Maxi Motors Financial Services Limited and registered with the Reserve Bank of India as an asset finance, deposit-taking NBFC, the company serves over 9 million cumulative customers through a network of more than 1,380 branches across all states of India, with a presence in approximately 85 percent of the country's districts. The firm is India's leading financier of tractors and utility vehicles in rural and semi-urban markets, and has diversified into car loans, commercial vehicle financing, pre-owned vehicle loans, SME finance, personal loans, and housing finance through its subsidiary Mahindra Rural Housing Finance Limited. The company also operates subsidiaries in insurance broking (Mahindra Insurance Brokers Limited), mutual fund management (Mahindra Manulife Investment Management), and overseas tractor financing in the United States through a joint venture with Rabobank. The firm is the only Indian NBFC listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for Emerging Markets.
