Founded in 1985, Essex Woodlands Health Ventures invests exclusively in healthcare. Essex has grown from an initial fund of $7 million to manage over $2.5 billion in committed capital through eight funds. The firm's eighth fund of $900 million closed in 2009. Within the healthcare industry, Essex invests in Pharmaceuticals, Biotechnology, Medical Devices, Managed Care, Life Sciences, Health Services and Information Technologies. The team is comprised of 23 professionals with principal offices in New York, Texas, California, and London. The Essex Woodlands team has been involved in the founding, investing, and/or management of over 150 healthcare companies ranging across all sectors, stages and geography.
