El Futuro is a Durham, North Carolina–based nonprofit community mental health organization that provides bilingual and culturally responsive behavioral health services, including therapy, psychiatry, substance use treatment, youth mental health, support groups and case management, primarily serving Latino and immigrant families in central NC. Founded in 2001 as a volunteer effort and incorporated as a nonprofit in 2004, it seeks to expand access to appropriate, culturally informed care and strengthen families’ emotional wellbeing and community health outcomes. The organization also offers professional training, technical assistance and statewide networks like the La Mesita Latino Mental Health Provider Network to improve culturally competent care and provider capacity. El Futuro engages in community outreach, advocacy, research and preventative programming to address systemic barriers to mental health among underserved populations and build models that can inform broader practice. It operates outpatient clinics in Durham and Siler City, serves thousands annually, and emphasizes trauma-informed, linguistically accessible services to reduce stigma and enhance engagement in care.
