Central Bank of Malta is a banking institution based in Valletta, Malta. Established in 1968, the main objective of the bank is to maintain price stability. It is entrusted with all major central banking tasks, particularly that of ensuring the stability of the financial system. It seeks to carry out its statutory responsibilities in the public interest and is committed to performing its functions effectively, efficiently, and economically to the highest level of integrity, competence, and transparency. The assets of the bank are managed and governed by the board of directors. The Governor and the Deputy Governors are appointed by the President of Malta, acting on the advice of the Prime Minister. The other Board Members are appointed by the Prime Minister. Both the Governors and the other Board Members are appointed for a term of five years but are eligible for re-appointment.
