On January 12, 2012, Borders Group, Inc. went out of business as per its Chapter 11 liquidation filing under bankruptcy. Borders Group, Inc., through its subsidiaries, engages in the operation of book, music, and movie superstores, as well as mall-based bookstores. As of January 29, 2011, it operated 489 superstores under the Borders name. The company also operated 126 mall-based and other small format bookstores, including stores operated under the Waldenbooks, Borders Express, and Borders Outlet names, as well as 27 Borders-branded airport stores. In addition, it operates a proprietary e-commerce Website, Borders.com. The company was founded in 1971 and is headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
