Abril Group is one of the leading and most influential groups of Communication, Education and Logistic in Latin America. Since its foundation as a small publisher in 1950, the company became more and more relevant to Brazil and the Brazilian people, publishing information, education and culture. Currently, through holdings and subsidiaries, the company is present in the sectors of Media, Distribution and Logistics and Education. Pioneering is a mark of Abril’s path. The history of the company began in the 1950’s, with the launching of the Brazilian version of Donald Duck magazine. The growth of the company in the publishing market enhanced the standards of quality of publications in the country. It established a journalistic culture that takes into account, above all, the commitment to the reader, with a high-quality standard of text, photography, edition and production. Following the concerns of the public opinion, it always contributed to the great debates of society. Permanently looking for innovation, Abril knew how to incorporate it to business. Thus, the company is currently one of the largest and most influential communication and educational groups in Latin America. The founder of Grupo Abril, Victor Civita, started the operations of the publishing company in a small office in downtown São Paulo. When he published the first issue of Donald Duck, in 1950, he had only half a dozen employees at his side. The name Abril (the Portuguese word for “April”) was chosen by Victor Civita for his company because in the Northern Hemisphere, spring starts in this month. Victor was also responsible for choosing the tree as the company’s logo. In the words of the founder himself: “I have chosen the tree as a symbol because it represents fertility, the image of life. The green was chosen because it is the color of hope and optimism”.
