Sam Hwang

Sam Hwang serves as Chief Executive Officer & Managing Partner at NP Equity Partners. He is an Angel Investor. Sam's first startup was New Pathway Education, which he founded in December of 2009 in Shanghai, China as a O2O test preparation company serving outbound students in China. Over the next three years, Sam led New Pathway to develop an industry leading adaptive learning platform, added a high end counseling business, and geographic expansion to Beijing. After securing a Series A investment round in June of 2012 led by Fosun Venture Capital, Chengwei Capital, and the Chairman of Sina, New Pathway expanded to multiple offices throughout Shanghai and Beijing. In December of 2014, New Pathway was acquired by global private equity fund CVC Capital and merged with CVC portfolio company EIC Education. Subsequently, Sam served as the CTO and Board member of EIC Education, one of China's leading international education companies. As the Managing Partner of NP Equity Partners, Sam actively manages an extensive portfolio of investments ranging from venture capital, art, real estate, and subsidiary companies. Sam is also actively involved as a director of the Hong Kong MIT Innovation Node and a board member of the MIT Sandbox Funding Board. Sam received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Materials Science & Engineering, both from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Hwang serves as Advisor at 500 Startups.
