Robert Hefner

Robert Hefner is a Co-Founder and Owner of The GHK Company and also serves as its Chief Executive Officer and Chairman. He is an Angel Investor. He is professionally a geologist and geophysicist, is an explorationist and a proven natural gas finder. He graduated in 1957 from the University of Oklahoma where he first became interested in the deep gas potential of the Anadarko Basin of western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle. Upon graduation, he trained with Phillips Petroleum. Hefner worked briefly for his family at The Hefner Company before founding The GHK Company in 1959. Under Hefner's guidance, the privately owned GHK Company pioneered deep natural gas exploration in the Anadarko Basin. GHK's operations led to most of the technological innovation necessary to drill and produce the world's deepest and highest pressure natural gas wells, including many world records. In 1997, GHK discovered the Potato Hills natural gas field in the Ouachita overthrust belt of southeastern Oklahoma, one of the larger North American onshore natural gas fields found in recent decades. In the 1970's and 1980's, Hefner appeared frequently before Congressional committees testifying on energy matters. He has written and published numerous articles on the global importance of natural gas resources and the impact of U.S. policies on the natural gas industry and the economy. He continues his active management and exploration role at GHK, as well as serving on the Advisory Council at the Center for a New American Security, and the International Council at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. Hefner is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, American Association of Professional Landmen, American Institute of Professional Geologists, Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association, Society of Exploration Geophysicists and the Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists.
