Mike Urquhart

Mike Urquhart serves as the Chief Financial Officer and Board Member at Passportal. With over 25 years of national and international experience in the private and public sectors, Mike is a Calgary based entrepreneur, well respected for his strong interpersonal skills and the ability to quickly understand the operational and organizational dynamics of complex situations. With extensive senior management experience in finance and operations, he has worked in a diverse range of industries, including technology, healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, fast-moving consumer goods, real estate services, advanced education and management consulting. In 2014 he became one of Passportal's first angel investors and joined the Board of Directors. Since then he has participated in each of Passportal's investment rounds, and joined the company as Chief Financial Officer in February 2016. His current role includes responsibility for fund raising and cash flow management, strategic and business planning, financial and business reporting, human resources, legal and compliance, and enterprise risk management. In addition to Passportal, Mike has helped found an award winning medical device company (Surface Medical) and two boutique management consulting firms (Stratavera Partners and Station 5 Consulting). He also led a business turnaround and is currently the President of Canada West Self Storage, and is a shareholder, former Board of Directors member and Audit Committee Chair of the Wild Rose Brewery. Prior to returning to Calgary in 2003, Mike worked in Asia for 10 years, mainly in Vietnam and Hong Kong but in roles with regional responsibilities. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Business, Northwestern University and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary. He has held his Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant designation since 1992 and his Institute of Corporate Directors ICD.D designation since 2013.
