Dr. Matthias Ruhl is a Co-Founder and serves as Chief Technology Officer at Accompani. Matthias is a large-scale system design, algorithm and data mining expert. Prior to founding Accompani, Matthias spent 9 years at Google. As a Senior Staff Research Scientist, he built the backend query engine, customer database and logs processing system that allowed Google Analytics to scale up to millions of accounts with over 900,000 requests per second. He also built the system to analyze and explain revenue changes across multiple organizational hierarchies-scaling to billions of data points. Other projects included designing anomaly detection algorithms that scale to billions of time series per day, re-implementing the core of Google Translate for 10x improvement in translation throughput, and building ratings and reviews collection for Google Checkout. Before Google, Matthias was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the IBM Almaden Research Center. He received his PhD in Computer Sciences from MIT, and an MS in both Mathematics and Computer Science from the Albert-Ludwigs University of Freiburg. Along with holding numerous big patents and having been published in dozens of technical publications, Matthias was the World Champion for his year of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest, a contest he continues to judge every year.
