Description
Matthew Andresen is the Co-Owner and CEO of Headlands Holdings. He served as Co-Chief Executive Officer at Citadel. He serves as an Advisor at Symbiont. He is also an angel investor. He is a Co-Founder of Headlands Technologies, where he serves as Chief Executive Officer. He is also CEO of Headlands Tech Global Markets, LLC ("HTGM"), a FINRA registered broker dealer that has grown into one of the leading liquidity providers in the municipal bond market. Before joining Headlands, he was co-CEO of Citadel Derivatives Group ("CDG"), an affiliate of Citadel Investment Group, LLC in Chicago. During his five years running CDG, he helped build the world's premier market making and trading firm. Prior to Citadel, he was President and CEO of Island ECN, the largest electronic stock market in the United States. Under his leadership, Island grew from a start-up into the largest market for the trading of Nasdaq-listed stocks, ETF securities, and many NYSE-listed names. In 2002, he sold Island to its largest competitor, Instinet, for $568 million. After the merger, he served as COO of the combined market. The market was then sold to NASDAQ for $1 billion. He currently serves on the SEC's Equity Market Structure Committee ("EMSAC"), advising the Commission on trading issues. Previously, he served on the Board of Directors of the International Securities Exchange, the Direct Edge Exchanges, and Lava Trading LLC. He also served on the CFTC's Global Markets Advisory Committee. He has appeared as an expert before U.S. Congressional Committees twenty-two times, testifying on a wide array of trading-related topics, such as The Future of Electronic Markets, the Impact of Technology on Commodity Markets, and the Effect of September 11 on Financial Markets. He holds a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. A former world-class Fencer, he was a National Champion, a four-time All-America, and a candidate for the 1996 U.S. Olympic Team. He was a 2013 Inductee into the Duke Athletics Hall of Fame.
