Marwan Fawaz has been a member of Synacor's board of directors since December 2011. Fawaz is Executive Vice President of Motorola Mobility, joining in June 2012, following its acquisition by Google Inc.
He is responsible leading Motorola's Home business in driving the evolution of TV and the smart, simple connected home. Fawaz is a top strategist in developing innovative solutions to drive tomorrow’s IP transformation, with more than 26 years of experience in the broadband communications industry, encompassing engineering, technical operations and business development. Prior to joining Motorola, Fawaz was a Founder and Partner at Sarepta Advisors, a technology consulting company based in Denver, Colorado.
Fawaz is the former Executive Vice President of Strategy and the Chief Technology Officer of Charter Communications. In this role, he was responsible for the company’s technology strategy, product management and business development efforts, as well as engineering and IP infrastructure, network operations, information technology, and web technology.
Before Charter, Marwan served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Adelphia Communications, where he was responsible for the company's overall technology development and deployment. He has also served as an investment analyst at Vulcan, Inc. Fawaz has served as the Chairman of the CableLabs Technical Advisory Committee and on the board of directors for Digeo.
He currently sits on the board of directors for the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) and for Synacor, and is a member of the cable advisory board for Guavus. Fawaz is also the recipient of numerous industry awards, including the prestigious 2010 National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) Vanguard Award in Science and Technology.
Fawaz holds an M.S. in Telecom Engineering and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from California State University, Long Beach.
