Mr. Candlish was formerly Chairman and CEO of First Alert, Inc., a manufacturer and marketer of home safety products. First Alert was a portfolio company of Thomas H. Lee Co. He played a key role in First Alert's sale to Sunbeam Corp. in 1998. Previously, he served as Chairman and CEO of Sealy, Inc., a leading supplier of mattresses, and CEO and President of Samsonite Corp. He also held various management positions with Wilson Sporting Goods (PepsiCo). Mr. Candlish's earlier career experience included twelve years with McKinsey & Company, where he was a Partner.
Mr. Candlish most recently served on the Board of Directors of Black & Decker Corp. (NYSE: BDK) and AmerUs Life Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: AMH). He previously served as a director of Dr. Pepper/Seven-Up Companies, Inc., Lowe's Home Safety Council, Health-o-Meter, Inc. and The Stiffel Company. Mr. Candlish received a B.Sc. degree from the London School of Economics
