Dr. John Maraganore serves as the Chief Executive Officer at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals. He also serves as the Chairman of the Board at Bio. From December 2002 to December 2007, Dr. Maraganore served as President of Alnylam. From April 2000 to December 2002, Dr. Maraganore served as Senior Vice President, Strategic Product Development with Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (now a subsidiary of Takeda) where he was responsible for the company's product franchises in Oncology and Cardiovascular, Inflammatory and Metabolic Diseases. He was previously Vice President, Strategic Planning and M&A and prior to that he was General Manager of Millennium Bio Therapeutics, Inc. a former subsidiary of Millennium. Before Millennium, he served as director of molecular biology and director of market and business development at Biogen, Inc. (now Biogen Idec, Inc.). At Biogen, Dr. Maraganore invented and led the discovery and development of Angiomax(TradeMark) (bivalirudin for injection, formerly Hirulog(TradeMark)) currently marketed by The Medicines Company. Prior to Biogen, he was a scientist at ZymoGenetics, Inc., and The Upjohn Company. Dr. Maraganore is also a director for Agios Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: AGIO) and was previously a director of Regulus Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: RGLS) through May 2014. Dr. Maraganore is a member of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) Board and the BIO Executive Committee. Dr. Maraganore holds a B.A. in biological sciences from the University of Chicago and an M.S. and a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Chicago. He serves as a Strategic Advisor at Brii Biosciences.
