Description
Eric Philo serves as Managing Director at Avalon Group. He is also an angel investor. He joined Avalon Net Worth in 2013 bringing our clients public and private capital markets guidance drawn from his experience as an award winning research analyst, an investment professional and a private investor. His particular focus is media, internet and telecommunications, although he has broad experience across many industries. He started his career at Goldman Sachs where he spent 13 years as a senior equity securities analyst following media companies. He also served in senior positions at Brompton Cross Capital Advisors, a long/short hedge fund, Shopkorn Associates, a family office/hedge fund, and Jennison Associates, a money manager serving institutions and individuals. He has extensive capital markets experience. As an equity research analyst, he was consistently named to Institutional Investor magazine's All-Star Team and The Wall Street Journal All-Star team (publishing). He was also instrumental in selling and valuing many IPOs, including Scholastic, Gartner Group, Reader's Digest, McClatchy, and others. He played a major role in setting IPO price, determining deal feasibility, creating the marketing documents and selling the deal. As an investment professional, Eric structured numerous transactions and invested and traded in all classes of securities. In 2011 he raised the majority of the initial money for BuildandSearch.com, a startup search website where he continues to serve the company's Chief Financial Officer. He has an M.B.A. from Columbia University and a B.B.A. from George Washington University. At both schools he was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society. He has served as Mentor, New York Society of Securities Analysts Investment Research Challenge, 2008-2013, most recently for the Columbia Business School Team. He has also served as Mentor for the Columbia University Business School Heilbrunn Center for Graham & Dodd Investing. He has published numerous articles on economic policy and capital markets on a major financial website. He holds a Series 79 FINRA license.
