David Hatfield’s expertise is in the areas of identifying, de-risking, and commercializing new businesses in the materials and chemical industries. The first 25 years of his career were with The Dow Chemical Company, where he held multiple commercial and business positions in thermoplastics and thermosets, including the launch of a $500 million global business.
Beginning in 2004, Hatfield built a successful consultancy in new business development that served dozens companies, both Fortune Forty companies such as Dow Corning Corporation, Cargill, and Ashland Inc., and start-up companies, including Genomatica Inc., Segetis Inc., Metabolix Inc., and Novomer Inc.
He has helped client companies identify and commercialize materials businesses based on technologies in plastics, silicones, chemicals and industrial biotechnology into the packaging, energy, automotive, electronics, paper, building and construction, clean-tech, and personal care industries.
These experiences have enabled him to create a large network of industry, technology, and material start-up experts, along with venture capital contacts. Covaron is leveraging this network for consultation, financing, employees, and potential customers and strategic investors.
Hatfield started working with Covaron in September of 2012 and is now dedicating his full professional time to its growth.
Dave has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Oberlin College and an MBA with a concentration in finance from the University of Michigan.
