Bruce Karsh is a Co-Founder and serves as Co-Chairman and Chief Investment Officer at Oaktree Capital Management. He is a Co-Executive Chairman of aXiomatic. He serves as board member at Sequoia Heritage. He serves as the Portfolio Manager for Oaktree's distressed debt funds, and the managers of all of Oaktree's private funds report to him. He is actively involved in managing the firm. Prior to co-founding Oaktree, Karsh was a Managing Director of TCW and its affiliate, TCW Asset Management Company, and the portfolio manager of the Special Credits Funds for seven years. Prior to joining TCW, Karsh worked as Assistant to the Chairman of Sun Life Insurance Company of America and of SunAmerica, its parent. Prior to that, he was an attorney with the law firm of O'Melveny & Myers. Before working at O'Melveny & Myers, Karsh served as an appellate clerk to the Honorable Anthony M. Kennedy, presently Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Karsh holds an A.B. degree in Economics summa cum laude from Duke University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to earn a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was the Notes Editor of the Virginia Law Review. Karsh serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Duke University's investment management company. He is the Chairman of the Board of The Tribune. He serves on the board of Charter Communications. He is also a Co-Founder and serves as Trustee at Karsh Family Foundation. He is an Angel Investor.
