Since its inception in 2004, Black Canyon has invested over $1 billion across diverse industries including consumer durables, retail, specialty finance, restaurants, media, and industrial manufacturers. Black Canyon was founded by Michael Hooks and Mark Lanigan and is partnered with Canyon Capital Advisors, LLC, one of the largest multi-strategy asset managers in the United States, with over $20 billion of assets under management. Black Canyon manages the Black Canyon Direct Investment Fund, a dedicated vehicle for investing in private transactions, which currently has approximately $500 million in equity commitments. Black Canyon invests in leveraged buyouts, management buyouts, recapitalizations and refinancings, and makes investments to finance growth and acquisitions. Black Canyon looks to invest in companies with at least $5M of EBITDA (or meaningful asset value), where their typical investment size is between $25M - $50M.
