Previously, he served as Chief Executive Officer of AmeriChoice Health Services. He was named president and chief executive officer of the Public and Senior Markets Group, which included the businesses serving government-sponsored health programs, now known as UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement and UnitedHealthcare Community & State. He was appointed executive vice president, UnitedHealth Group, in December 2006. Welters had previously been president, chief executive officer of AmeriChoice, which was acquired by UnitedHealth Group in 2002. He serves as Executive Chairman at BlackIvy Group. He founded AmeriChoice in 1989. Prior to his role with AmeriChoice, Welters held a number of senior positions in the federal government and in private industry. Welters serves as Operating Partner at Virgo Investment Group.
