The University of Alberta manages an endowment fund based in Edmonton, Canada. Established in the year 1989, the endowment fund consists primarily of the Unitized Endowment Pool (UEP), and a number of smaller endowments managed outside the UEP. The fund is financed by contributions and gifts from various donors. The assets are managed by the Board of Governors.University of Alberta Endowment's investment portfolio is valued at over CAD 1.28 billion, with investments in private equity, real estate, hedge funds, infrastructure, real assets, natural resources, publicly-traded equities, fixed income securities, and cash. Since its inception, the university's endowment has produced an annual return of 8.9%.
