In his endeavors, Sander has proven himself a commercially driven financial manager, creative entrepreneur and engaged economist. Currently he is CFO at The New Motion, a tech company offering charging-solutions (hard- and software) to drivers of electric vehicles. This VC-funded, late-stage Startup currently employs over 80 people across offices in Amsterdam, Berlin and Brussels.
Before starting as the CFO at what was then a small start-up with only 6 employees, Sander partly owned a franchise chain of high-concept restaurants throughout Europe. He started his career in the public sector, working as an economist at the Dutch Central Bank and Dutch Ministry of Finance, and as a consultant for the World Bank in India.
The common thread in all these roles is the intellectual flexibility that turned these projects into success. At The World Bank in India for example, Sander quickly became an expert in affordable sanitary solutions (i.e. toilets) for people living in the poor outskirts of that country's megacities. The restaurant business required a different skill-set, even though Sander again displayed the drive needed to succeed as a business owner. This independent attitude has since proven very useful at The New Motion as well, strongly contributing to securing a total of over 14m in equity funding and growing the company from scratch to 10m turnover in three years.
Juggling these professional assets has yielded excellent results throughout his career and, even more important to himself, has constantly kept things interesting.
