Barend founded Hummingbird Ventures in 2010. As Managing Partner, Barend oversees all aspects of fund and investment management. He currently serves on the board of directors of Markavip, Taxibeat, and Showpad. He was a director on the board of Shutl (acquired by Ebay), Clear2pay (acquired by FIS) , DataCenterTechnologies (acquired by Symantec) and Dedigate (acquired by Terremark Inc.). He began his career in the US as a Financial Analyst for SG Cowen in Boston, Massachusetts, focusing on internet and data-networking companies. Barend holds a Master of Science degree in Economics from the University of Louvain, Belgium
