Topspin LBO is a follow-on fund to Topspin Partners, LP, a $213 million Long Island-based venture capital and buyout fund that was founded in August 2000 by Leo Guthart and Jim Simons. Topspin started its buyout practice in July 2001 with the acquisition of Terk Technologies, a manufacturer of branded antennas and other consumer electronics products. Since that time, Topspin I has completed three other buyouts, and successfully exited from two of its buyouts: Terk Technologies in July 2005 and Coastal Security Company, a security alarm monitoring company based in Florida, in November 2005. The other two companies that remain in Topspin I's buyout portfolio are The Tiffen Company, a manufacturer and distributor of photographic accessories, and Moose River Publishing, a trade publisher. While the firm invests in companies anywhere in the U.S., Topspin intends to actively pursue opportunities in the underserved Long Island market. The firm looks to invest in companies with between $2 million and $7 million of EBITDA.
