Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) is an economic development agency based at Washington, District of Columbia. The agency represents a partnership of federal, state, and local governments. The organization funds approximately 450 projects annually throughout the 13-state Appalachian Region through its area development program in order to strengthen the economic condition of the region. Established by an act of Congress in 1965, ARC is composed of the governors of the 13 Appalachian states and a federal co-chair, who is appointed by the president. Local participation is provided through multi-county local development districts. The commission staff is headed by an executive director.Appalachian Regional Commission's investment portfolio is valued at over $372.26 million, with investments in domestic and international equity, fixed income, private equity, cash and infrastructure.
